Namibia will soon develop a migration policy for Namibians in the diaspora. The policy will complement the general national policy on migration. The Minister of Home Affairs and Immigration, Penduka Iivula-Ithana attended the United Nations round table on the root causes of large movements of refugees and presented Namibia’s status on migration.
The painful history of the migrant labour system of colonial times is on display at Walvis Bay. Residents, especially the youth are urged to visit the exhibition at the municipality hall to understand the impact of migrant labour system on Namibia’s emancipation.
There is a need for Namibia to trade its excess ivory products in order to support local communities and conserve the country’s fauna and flora more effectively. A local expert has called for the amendment of international regulations to allow Namibia to trade in ivory sustainably.
The are still some disputes around the negotiations between the government and the teachers union -NANTU on the rules of the strike. NANTU says although the two parties have agreed on most of the rules, there are still a few issues which both parties could not compromise on.
