Following the agreement between government and NANTU at State House, NANTU launched a scathing attack on Katrina Hanse-Himarwa, saying she was not fit to hold the position of education minister. NANTU Secretary-General Basilius Haingura expressed dismay at what he called the threatening and intimidating attitude towards teachers by Hanse-Himarwa during negotiations.

The nation-wide teachers strike has been called off. The Government and NANTU have reached an agreement to increase salaries of all civil servants with 9% in the next financial year. All teachers have been called to report for duty on Monday.

Teachers will get a 5% salary increase this financial year, and a 9% for the 2017/2018 financial year. The no work and no pay will not apply for the two days that the teachers were on strike. This is according to an agreement reached by Government and NANTU on Saturday following days of negotiations.
