Subsistence farmers in the area of Lake Liambezi started cultivating the wet land surrounding the lake as it dries up. Farmers in the Zambezi Region practices subsistence farming and are largely contributing to food security in Namibia, as the government uses their crops to distribute during droughts.
Residents of Zambezi region fear that fish will be depleted as the Lake Liambezi is drying up at a rapid and worrying pace. The rural communities living in the area are heavily depending on the Lake Liambezi, not only for the fish but for drinking water as well.
