Pregnant women are being encouraged to be close to health facilities to avoid incidences of obstetric fistula. An obstetric fistula is a devastating condition where a hole is formed between the vagina and rectum or bladder that is caused by prolonged obstructed labor, subjecting women to uncontrollable of bladder or bowel.

Talks in the Democratic Republic of Congo between the ruling coalition and opposition have failed to reach a compromise on the political future of President Joseph Kabila. His mandate ends today but Kabila intends to stay in power until elections are organised.
