The 2017 Assets Register for Parliamentarians will be ready and open for scrutiny within two months. A statement by National Assembly Speaker Peter Katjavivi indicates that the summaries on the declaration of assets will be soon be finalised and publicised. Katjavivi attributed the delay for the disclosure of assets to certain administrative difficulties which his office has just addressed and apologised for the inconvenience. He said attempts to disclose the assets on parliamentary website also added to the delay. The Assets Register for 2015 and 2016 has already been published and open for scrutiny. President Hage Geingob was the first to declare his assets in 2015. The Speaker’s office, however, dismissed reports that it had deliberately withheld information from the public regarding declaration of assets.
