Plans are underway to align legislation dealing with the mining and extraction industry, together with the Anti-Corruption Commission’s (ACC) strategy and action plan. This is aimed at closing loopholes in the laws and further root out possible corruption and illicit cash outflows from the country.

Legal experts expressed mixed feelings on whether the New Equitable Economic Empowerment Framework Bill (NEEEF) is viable or ‘unconstitutional and detrimental to investors’. While some were in favour of NEEEF, Senior Counsel Reinhard Totemeyer and Advocate Gerson Narib argued against the draft bill.
