Namibia’s Founding and Former Presidents addressed the mourners at Theo-Ben Gurirab’s memorial at Parliament Gardens on Friday. Given the role that the late Gurirab played in the liberation struggle, the two statemen reiterated their call to the youth: To emulate his example and put the nation’s interests first.

Foreign dignitaries paid tribute to the man many have described as a diplomat-par excellence. The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres’ message was read by the UN Acting Resident Coordinator in Namibia, Rachel Odede.

Namibians owe it to the late Theo-Ben Gurirab to deal with the land ownership question in a tolerant manner. This was said by President Hage Geingob during the memorial service held in honour of the late Gurirab.

A number of speakers also paid tribute to late Gurirab at a family memorial service held at the Inner City Lutheran Church. The Namibia Association of Former Ambassadors (NAFA) says Gurirab was the rise of Namibian diplomacy, a leader of campaigns that saw the country attained independence.

Oshakati Town Council has completed the servicing of 270 erven in Extension 16. The council has invested N$70 million into the project of which N$50 million was sourced from the Development Bank of Namibia. Oshakati town council Chief Executive Officer Werner Iita says, despite financial constraints, the council was able to fully service the plots.

Residents of the //Karas Region have joined the rest of the nation in paying tribute to the late Theo-Ben Gurirab. The Swapo party regional leadership, the Office of the Governor and the //Karas Regional Council held a joint memorial service in honour of the late Gurirab, a diplomat of note.

Close to 2 000 learners from 81 rural schools in Oshana, Ohangwena and Omusati regions attended a career fair at Oshakati. The event was organised by Twahangana Human Resource Consulting.

Turkish ambassador to Namibia, Berin Tulun wants the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) to start feeding from TRT World, a 24-hour, Turkish international English-language news channel. The ambassador made this appeal as she bade farewell to NBC employees, on their way to attending training in Turkey.

Children of the Liberation Struggle expressed their discontent over alleged poor service delivery at the Ministry of Home Affairs and Immigration. They say the ministry was taking too long to give them their United Nation repatriation forms and other national documents.

Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila urged regions to nominate persons to fully represent their interests at ongoing regional consultations in preparation for the upcoming second National Land Conference. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says this is important as the land conference will reflect on the plight of landless citizens and draft resolutions that will answer every citizen’s needs.
