Supplementary registration of voters to commence next week

The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) will start with the supplementary registration of voters next week Monday until 27 July. The ECN will target to register 300 000 new voters for the 2019 Presidential and National Assembly scheduled for 27 November.

Persistent drought affects production of essential oils in Kunene

Persistent drought in the Kunene Region is now affecting the production of the Commiphora wildii, locally known as Omumbiri, and mopane seed essential oils that are being produced in Opuwo and surrounding areas. For the past three years, the essential oil production has decreased immensely from 100 bottles per month to only 45 now.

Air Namibia debt hampers Airports Company’s execution of mandate

Air Namibia has accrued a debt of N$522 million to the Namibia Airports Company which affects the ability of the company to execute its mandate. The debt, which emanates from passenger safety and airport levies, airport fees and other unspecified charges, stood at N$86 million in 2016 but has ballooned to over N$500 million.
