Health and Social Service Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that two cases of COVID – 19 have been confirmed in Namibia. At a press briefing in Windhoek, Shangula said a Spanish couple arrived in the country through the Hosea Kutako International Airport (HKIA), with Qatar Airways on Wednesday.

The mass Independence Day celebrations which were scheduled for 21 March have been cancelled. President Hage Geingob made the announcement as part of the precautionary measures against the Coronavirus. The Ministry of Health confirmed two cases this morning, after a Spanish couple, who arrived in Namibia as tourists, tested positive for the virus.

The Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation (MIRCO) says all foreign dignitaries who confirmed their attendance to the Independence Day celebrations will be informed of the new measures enacted. The Government invited about 32 dignitaries to attend.
