Botswana has recorded the first COVID-19 death. President Mokgweetsi Masisi has now declared the State of the Nation Emergency effective from midnight on Thursday to 2 April until further notice. This effectively means that from Friday early morning the lockdown will be effective.

The Roads Authority (RA) is among the latest institutions to close all operations at its centres nationwide, until Thursday, 16 April. The decision was taken to comply with the state of emergency regulations.

Homeless people in Windhoek are appealing to the Ministry of Health and Social Services to speed up the process of relocating them to temporary places of safety during the 21-day lockdown, as part of the state’s Homeless Upliftment Project.
