The Agricultural Bank of Namibia (Agribank) is worried about possible drought as little showers have been received since the start of the rainy season. Agribank Technical Officer Erastus Ngaruka says in a statement climate change is impacting agriculture worldwide, including the dry regions of southern Africa. Ngaruka says livestock and crops are vulnerable to the unforgiving climatic conditions, like droughts and floods, and outbreak of pests that reduce harvest yields. He says Namibia, like most of Southern Africa has endured recurrent drought since 2013, where some lives were lost. Ngaruka says although there have been some improvements in rainfall since 2016, it has been irregular and inconsistent to the point of threatening agricultural productivity. The Agribank technical officer has advised farmers to relocate livestock, sell or feed if drought persists in their areas.
