A mother and her eight-month-old baby boy died on Thursday night at Kambumbu village in the Kavango West Region after they were run over by an unlicensed driver. The Namibian Police Force’s Kavango West Regional Commander, Commissioner Josephat Abel told NAMPA on Friday the incident took place at around 20h30 on Thursday. It is alleged that the driver of a silver Kia was driving from Nzinze village on his way to Nkurenkuru when he bumped the woman who was carrying a baby boy on her back at Kambumbu village, he said. The woman, whose age is unknown, died on the spot while the baby boy died at the Rundu State Hospital. According to Abel the driver was arrested and will appear in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court next Tuesday. She has been identified as Theresia Mulyeni and her baby as Gotfried Hautenya. Their next of kin have been informed. -NAMPA
