Government has cautioned the public not to believe that every news item on social media is factual. This follows recent posts circulated on social media in which President Hage Geingob was quoted as saying youth votes are not needed. Another one is that of Bank of Namibia’s logo indicating that the country is bankrupt. In the statement issued, the Government says such news has an agenda to create fear and destabilise peace among the public and should not be taken seriously. It is further stated, perpetrators of such activities should refrain from spreading misinformation and rather keep political battles out off social media.
