The number of road crashes, fatalities and injuries on national roads remains a major concern. This was raised at a public hearing of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Economics and Public Administration with Road Authority and National Road Safety Council. The two entities highlighted challenges such as lack of coordination, poor data and outdated legislation. According to Teklu Adamu a Senior Specialist for Traffic at Roads Authority, people are dying on the roads almost every day and there is much expected from stakeholders. The meeting recommended the construction of more dual-carriageways to reduce the number of accidents. Members of the committee also recommended that the responsibilities of each organisation involved in road safety must be clearly outlined, as well as carrying out more awareness campaign on road safety.
