The business community has applauded President Hage Geingob for the bold steps he took in tackling corruption. Members of the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) affirmed support after President Geingob explained why the two former members of his Cabinet, Sacky Shanghala and Bernhardt Esau resigned on Wednesday. The two resigned following revelations of bribery involving an Icelandic fishing company doing business in Namibia. NCCI member, Llewellyn le Hane told Geingob that the resignations of the former ministers demonstrate trust that and commitment to root out corruption especially in the public sector. He applauded the fact that cases are being handled in full view of the public. However, NCCI members encouraged the president to continue the economic reform process with consultations with the business community.
