A long-serving member of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Deputy Commissioner Jurie Johannes Vermeulen has died. This was announced by the Inspector General of NamPol Sebastian Ndeitunga today. The 55-year-old Vermeulen, who served the force for 29 years, died on Sunday in the Gobabis Private Hospital. Vermeulen joined NamPol as a sergeant in 1990 and through his dedication to policing service, worked his way up to the position of Deputy Commissioner in 2017, a rank he held until the time of his death. Ndeitunga described Vermeulen as a disciplined, devoted, skilful and hardworking senior police officer who upheld and defended the rule of law throughout his policing career. He will be buried on Saturday.
