The Ministry of Mines and Energy has confirmed that an earthquake was recorded in the early hours of Thursday in some parts of the country. A statement availed to Nampa on Friday said the earthquake was recorded at all 10 seismic stations of the Namibian Seismology Network namely in Windhoek, Tsumeb, Kamanjab, Opuwo, Rundu, Katima, Gobabis, Karibib, Aus and Ariamsvlei at 04h20. The earth tremor, it explained registered a preliminary local magnitude (ML) of 4.5 as recorded by the Namibian Seismological Network at latitude (Y): 19.728 South, longitude (X): 14. 873 East. The earthquake was shallow at a depth of less than 10 Km, the statement reads. The ministry advises the public to take precautionary measure in case they feel an earthquake. “If you find yourself indoors, try going outside safely when possible, otherwise stand near doorframes or find refuge under the table. If you are outdoors, find a clear spot well clear of building, trees and power line. Stay and face away from windows and watch out for falling objects,” said the MME.
