The lifeless body of a 30-year-old woman who was allegedly washed away by heavy flowing rainwater early Wednesday night at Otjiwarongo, has been found. Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Thursday said the body of Elise Shafooli was discovered washed ashore on Thursday near the Otjiwarongo Military Base by a passerby. Mbeha said Shafooli together with three other women were walking back to their houses from a charcoal manufacturing farm where they work after it had just stopped raining and several riverbeds at the town were flowing strongly. “Shafooli was taken by the heavy flowing rainwater as the four women were crossing a riverbed behind the Ombili informal settlement,” Mbeha said. The other three women managed to cross and alerted the police who launched a search for the victim Wednesday night. The deceased’s next of kin have been informed of her death and an inquest docket has been opened at the Otjiwarongo Police Station. Mbeha is now calling on residents of the Otjozondjupa Region to refrain from crossing in flowing rainwater as rain is expected to continue in different parts of the region. -NAMPA
