Khorixas will soon develop a vocational training centre (VCT) for 3 000 young people, to tackle unemployment and develop skills for many young people in the town. The southern Kunene Region is known for its petrified forest and Twyfelfontein a site of ancient rock engravings. The town with about 20 000 inhabitants has a large number of unemployed young people. The VTC that will be located on the entrance to the town, will also accommodate young people from other towns. Andreas /Howoseb, the chief executive officer of Khorixas Town Council says, the construction of the VTC is expected to start early next year. The town has also developed housing plans for its residents, working with Namibia Housing Enterprise and entering into public private partnership to service and develop land for residence. The informal settlement in the area of Donkerhoek is being serviced, providing development for the residence and lines of electricity are visible. However, /Howoseb says, because of the influx of people to the town, water and other services are in demand, therefore there is a need to develop new strategies to accommodate all.
