The Swakopmund Town Council has reshuffled its office bearers by electing a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor. Nehemiah Salomon was elected as Mayor deputised by Assertha Marsh. In his acceptance speech, Salomon says the council together with central government will address the lack of housing, land issue, unemployment and sanitation in the informal settlement of the Democratic Resettlement Community (DRC). He asked for unity from his fellow councillors and urged them to work together in addressing all challenges facing the town. Salomon and Marsh were sworn in as Mayor and Deputy Mayor respectively during a special council meeting at Swakopmund on Monday. Erkkie Shitana and Kleopas Ngwena retained their positions as Chairperson and Alternate Chairperson of the Management Committee with the Swakopmund former Mayor, Pauline Nashilundo as member of the Management Committee. The Swakopmund Local Authority council comprises of 10 members of which six are from SWAPO and one each from UDF, Swakopmund Residents Association, PDM and NUDO.
