The 11th edition of the Annual Luderitz Crayfish Festival has been launched at the coastal town. The event raised N$562 000 through pledges by the business sector and some individuals on Friday. Luderitz Mayor, Hilaria Mukapuli promised a much better and bigger festival, when it kicks off at the end of April this year. She said since its inception, the festival attracted thousands of participants from Namibia, neighbouring South Africa’s Northern Cape Province and other international visitors. Fisheries and Marine Resources Deputy Minister, Sylvia Makgone said although the festival is held once a year, it earns residents much-needed money, from sales. Makgone urged the Luderitz Town Council to maintain focus on organising and hosting the festival, in order for it to benefit current and future generations. She thanked the business community, which has continued to support the event since its start, encouraging new sponsors to come on board. Makgone further pledged the ministry’s continued support of the festival for years to come.
