Owners and operators of businesses in the Monte Cristo area say the Windhoek City Police is systemically isolating them from clients after it dumped heaps of sand near their businesses. The group includes long-distance bus operators, bar and restaurant owners. Their businesses are in close proximity to the Monte Cristo Service Station and they said the heaps of sand are blocking access to their businesses. The complainants said the latest heaps of sand dumped in the area sealed it off to cars. The group said the City Police first dumped sand in the area on 27 February, before returning on Tuesday to dump sand again on the road entering the area. Tipper trucks dumped heaps of sand at the roads entering into Hereford Street, the area between Monte Cristo Service Station and Sam Nujoma Stadium, to block access. City Police Public Relation Officer, Edmund Khoaseb said traffic has been congested at the street due to disorderly parking of cars. He stressed that passengers have rough experience and are often being grabbed and separated from their belongings by bus operators fighting for clients.
