Despite opening on time, most polling stations in the Ncuncuni constituency by-elections were characterised by a slow voter turnout Wednesday morning. There are nine fixed polling station and six mobile polling stations around the constituency. Twelve of them opened at exactly 07h00 Wednesday morning. All the polling stations will close 21h00. Swapo’s Ritha Sinjanga and the All People’s Party’s (APP) Paulus Mangundu are battling it out for that seat that became vacant following the death of Rosa Kavara earlier this year. Returning officer, Maurus Kamati said they are disappointed by the early voter turnout but is aware of the fact that many residents spend their mornings attending to their crop fields. He is hopeful that the voter turnout will improve during the course of the day. The final result verification will take place at the Ncaute Police station after polls close. Both parties concluded their campaign activities last weekend.
