The National Equitable Economic Empowerment Framework (NEEEF) bill is ready for tabling in Parliament. President Geingob says this is because Swapo Party has vowed to leave no stone unturned in its pursuit to close the inequality gap. Geingob was speaking at the belated celebrations of Swapo Party’s 58th anniversary in Mariental, Hardap Region. The government recently announced the scrapping of the 25% clause that would have compelled established businesses to sell shares to previously disadvantaged Namibians. According to Geingob, this is no reason to celebrate as the Government will push ahead with the framework in a bit to address structural inequalities. He told party members that Apartheid policies excluded the majority of Namibians from participating in the economy and this still haunts the country. Therefore, the bill, once it becomes a law, will not be an individual empowerment scheme, Geingob stressed. Meanwhile, the party is expected to unveil its new secretariat as well as the new think tank in a week.
