Windhoek’s Ausspanplattz, near the central business district (CBD), has been officially renamed, Dr António Agostinho Neto Square, in honour of Angola’s late founding president. Neto served as president from 1975 to 1979, having led the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) in the war for independence from 1961 to 1974. Angola’s current president, João Lourenço and his Namibian counterpart, President Hage Geingob, unveiled the plague on Friday, after the 40th commemoration of Cassinga Day at Heroes’ Acre.
