A woman who rescued a baby from an accident scene Thursday afternoon says “motherly instinct kicked in” when she took the baby from the smoldering car. Tulonga Neputa was on her way to the SOE Games in Swakopmund when the minibus driver told them about the child in the car. Five people died after the fatal head on collision between an Amarok and a BMW. The Accident happened approximately 25 km out of Okahandja on the B1 road to Windhoek around 15h00. Neputa did not think twice before she leapt out of the car to rescue the baby despite her colleagues’ warnings. Speaking to NBC News Thursday evening she said smoke was emanating from the car. Neputa, a mother of two boys, expressed disappointment with Namibian drivers and their attitude on the roads. She was surprised that bystanders were more interested in taking pictures and videos instead of helping the injured on accident scenes.
