Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila has dismissed allegations that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) covers up activities involving members of the executive. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says the ACC is accountable to Parliament. Last week, PDM Member of Parliament tabled a motion questioning the credibility and the impartiality of the commission. In his motivation, Vipuakuje Muharukua had asked for the setting up of a Parliamentary committee to look into the ACC’s operations after alleging that corruption is rampant in Namibia. Kuugongelwa-Amadhila said the Government has introduced measures and strategies to end corruption. Minister of Information and Communication Technology Stanley Simataa said evidence rather than perception should be the basis of all allegations of corruption. PDM President McHenry Venaani said corruption reports are widespread and there is little evidence of what is being done to curb the scourge.
