Police recorded 13 stock theft cases from the Windhoek Rural Constituency since the start of this year but farmers believe it could higher. Farmer Nicolas Orlam says police intervention is long overdue, as stock theft suspects roam freely around Dordabis. He says the thieves mainly target cattle, but also steal goats and donkeys, and the police never help farmers recover stolen livestock. Khomas regional crime coordinator, commissioner Silvanus Nghishidimbwa says few cases of stock theft are reported from Dordabis. He says farmers should understand that the police cannot keep suspected thieves in custody after they are charged in court. Nghishidimbwa added that majority of Dordabis farmers are based in Windhoek and usually report stock theft cases over weekends.
