Namibia has joined the Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) agreement worth over US$2 trillion. President Hage Geingob signed the agreement during the African Union summit currently underway in Nouakchott, Mauritania. Namibia is now required to ratify the agreement through Parliament. ACFTA aims to establish a single market in terms of goods and services for the continent’s 1,2 billion people. It will also facilitate the establishment of a continental customs union. South Africa also signed the agreement on Sunday.
