Learners at the PK de Villiers Secondary School in Keetmanshoop are suspected to have planted and kept a cannabis plant inside the hostel. The hostel superintendent, Matti Gabriel, confirmed to NAMPA that officers of the Police’s Serious Crime Branch removed the suspected dagga plant last week. Gabriel said the police removed the plant from a plant pot and placed it in one of the open rooms in the boys’ hostel block. He further expressed frustration over pupils who allegedly smoke cannabis in the hostel, especially during the night when the lights are turned off. The hostel supervisor said the group consists of around eight pupils from Grade 11 and 12. He said the same learners were suspended some months ago and parents were called in to intervene. Approached for comment, Education Director /Awebahe //Hoeseb said he was unaware of the situation.
