Residents of Okakarara stormed the police station, allegedly assaulted three officers in uniform and blocked the gate of the station from around 02h00 Sunday morning. The NBC News team found blood and broken bottles on the precinct. The community claims that over 40 people, including a pregnant woman, were allegedly assaulted at local bars in the early hours of Sunday morning. They complained that the heavy handed approach by the officers, who went to close bars operating after hours, were unnecessary. Ombara Otjitambi, Vekuii Rukoro, met with senior officers inside the station before he addressed the crowd. A sizeable crowd were still outside the station around lunch time wanting to lay charges against officers and demanding the release of those arrested after the physical altercation with officers at the station. They have not been allowed to enter the station.
