A 35-year-old man who allegedly shot and killed his girlfriend’s cousin appeared in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Monday. Nzundamo Kabala was arrested after killing 26-year-old Falali Mahoto on Saturday night, at Bezi Bar near the Zambezi River. Mahoto was shot and killed, reportedly while trying to stop Kabala from assaulting his cousin – with whom the suspect has a child. Kabala faces charges of murder, as well as attempted murder. The survivor is an employee of UNAM at Katima Mulilo. It is alleged that after the shooting Kabala fled the scene, but was arrested at Kalumba Village 10 kilometers south of Katima Mulilo. The State has opposed the granting of bail on the grounds that he is likely to interfere with the police investigation. Kabala was advised to file a formal application for bail, for the court to hear why he should be granted bail. Magistrate Boyd Namushinga postponed the case to the sixth of next month.
