Francois Victor, an employee of the Swakopmund Skydive Club, who recently made racist remarks on social media, has been fired and banned from entering the premises of Skydive Namibia. Victor’s remarks attracted anger among Namibians online. Manager Polly van Pittius confirmed his sacking to NBC News. Victor, a part-time parachuter at that company, was quoted saying f**k, k…r and many other racist remarks, as an angry response to the murder and suicide incident in Swakopmund over the weekend. The company, however, has distanced itself from such sentiments saying Victor’s utterance on social media does not represent the views and values of the club and company. Meanwhile, Ombudsman John Walters has again called on all Namibians to refrain from racism. Walters has already submitted recommendations to the Minister of Justice to revise current legislation so that it can accommodate cyberspace racism.
