Women and youth appointments in key positions are among the topics at the African Union’s (AU) extraordinary summit currently underway in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The summit will also discuss the progress made in implementing African Union reform process. The African Union embarked on institutional reforms last year to make the AU Commission responsive to the needs of the continent. The reforms include, among others, the inclusion of youth and women in key positions at the Commission. Ethiopian prime minister, Abiy Ahmed says the inclusion of this group should start at member-state’s level. Ethiopia recently became the latest African country to make equal women and men representation in decision-making after Rwanda and Namibia.
