A lightning strike on Sunday claimed the life of a nine-year-old girl and left her mother injured at a village in the Okangwati policing area in the Epupa Constituency in Kunene. This was confirmed to Nampa on Monday by Namibian Police crime investigations coordinator for Kunene, Deputy Commissioner Rudolf Kanyetu, who said the incident happened around 18h00 at Orotjirindi village. The lightning reportedly hit the girl, identified as Mukaakakondo Navare, while sitting with her mother in a hut. She died instantly. The mother was taken to the clinic at Okangwati for medical treatment and was later discharged. A communal farmer in the Kunene Region, Tjakazapi Mbunguha told NAMPA heavy rains on Sunday damaged roads, including parts of the road from Sesfontein to Opuwo, especially between Okorosave village and Opuwo.
