Some residents of Ondado village have raised concern over the tendency of some wealthy and connected individuals who prey on the poor by buying their land for illegal sand mining activities. The issue of illegal sand mining has finally caught government’s attention forcing the Environment Ministry to carry out awareness campaigns to sensitise traditional leaders and ordinary citizens on various laws governing sand mining and other environmental harmful activities.
