President Hage Geingob is to lead a SADC delegation of Heads of State and Government to discuss the electoral situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). In a media statement the Presidency said Geingob, who is the Chairperson of SADC, will lead a Joint Summit with the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region to discuss the situation in the DRC ahead of elections on 30 December 2018. The DRC Presidential, Legislative and Provincial Elections were slated for 23 December 2018, but was postponed due to a delay in deploying voting material to polling stations, after a fire destroyed material in the central warehouse of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kinshasa. “The Joint SADC-ICGLR Summit, hosted by Chairperson of the ICGLR and President of the Republic of Congo, Denis Sassou Nguesso, will take place in Brazzaville. Geingob was expected to travel to Brazzaville Wednesday and return the same day.
