Prime Minister Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila says Namibians should defend and jealously guard the prevailing peace and unity in the country. She says the government has laid a solid foundation for a prosperous Namibia, during 27 years of independence – and Namibians should appreciate its leaders, past and present, for such visionary leadership. She stressed that Namibia is a respected member of the international community today, which can make its voice heard at international platforms; and contribute to the resolution of global challenges and the shaping of the world’s future. In this regard, Namibia also relies on the youth of today, to be tomorrow’s leaders – and government wants to prepare them, by investing in their social and skills development; and the creation of economic opportunities. Kuugongelwa Amadhila was addressing a belated Swapo anniversary at Outapi in the Omusati region over the weekend, cautioning that no development can take place in a situation of conflict and instability. The Prime Minister encouraged young people to make use of opportunities offered to them, and to desist from destructive tendencies of crime, and drug and alcohol abuse. She also cautioned against reckless sexual behaviour, which expose them to sexually transmitted diseases and unplanned pregnancies, which can destroy their future.
