About 30 Groot Aub residents handed over a petition, to the Khomas Regional Council, in protest against the incorporation of the settlement into the Windhoek City Council on Friday. Initially all the Khomas Regional Councillors were present to receive the petition but eventually left because the group arrived over an hour late. Protesters calling themselves Groot Aub Consultative Committee want the handover reversed and that the residents be given time to re-consult. The group’s spokesperson, Cicel Titus said residents want the opportunity to run their own affairs. Clement Mafwila, Khomas Chief Regional Officer, received the petition. The City of Windhoek said they still plan to take over management of the settlement tomorrow.
