Delays in conducting autopsies, and a rise in the number of unclaimed bodies are a major contributing factors to overcrowding at the Windhoek state mortuary. Responding to questions from United Democratic Front (UDF) president, Apius Auchab in the National Assembly, was Safety and Security Deputy Minister, Daniel Kashikola. Auchab wanted the ministry to explain the extensive delays in performing postmortems at the Windhoek state mortuary. He further wanted the ministry to confirm or deny reports that the state mortuary, which has a capacity of 24, now holds up to 200 bodies.
