Being hit by a vehicle while crossing the road has become a high risk, countrywide. The latest victim, like many other children having been hit by cars in recent weeks, was a six-year-old boy. Police say Erastus Kaunanele Shipa died in hospital on Monday, while another child sustained injuries after they were both bumped by a 71-year-old male driver at Ongwediva. It is alleged that the two victims were among a group of children who were walking across the road. On the same day at Opuwo, a 63-year-old Swiss national sustained injuries on her left thigh and wrist, after allegedly being bumped by a 54-year-old male driver. It is alleged that the foreign tourist was passing behind the vehicle at the time of the incident. The Private Safety Forum and Windhoek City Police announced an initiative Tuesday to educate pedestrians on how and where to cross the road safely. This is in view of an alarming increase in the number of people getting hit while crossing the road, across Namibia.
