The most prominent contestants for president of South Africa’s ruling African National Congress (ANC), Cyril Ramaphosa and Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, accepted nominations. Ramaphosa received 1469 branch nominations while Dlamini-Zuma received 1 094 nominations. Current treasurer-general, Zweli Mkhize received the majority of branch nominations but declined nomination for the deputy presidency.
