The Meat Corporation of Namibia, Meatco, is in the process of finalizing the trading license with the regulatory body in China before beef exports may commence to the Asian country. Namibia will be the first African state to qualify for beef-in-bone exports to China. Meatco’s Marketing and Sales Executive, Cyprianus Khaiseb, revealed on the company’s website last week that the company had finally received approval from China to start beef exports to that country. The announcement follows negotiations on the types of meat to be exported, market trends and the storage requirement for shipping to Asia. He said Meatco was busy sorting out the trading license with the regulatory body responsible for providing the import license. Khaiseb noted that it now depended on Meatco to determine the date, manner and cost on how the Namibian beef would be exported. China’s General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine is responsible for issuing the trading license.
