The Governor of the Omaheke Region Festus Ueitele, has publicly apologised to the Ovaherero community for the negative remarks he made about them. This follows a directive from President Hage Geingob that Ueitele apologises publicly to that community, for the restoration of peace and unity in the region. During a media conference at Gobabis this afternoon, which was attended by Regional Councillors and various high ranking officials in the region, the Governor said he had accepted the President’s directive wholeheartedly, and described Dr Geingob as his mentor. Ueitele said he would continue with his initiative of engaging traditional leaders , especially those from the Ovaherero community with a view of restoring peace and trust within the region. He added that the only thing he regretted was that the issue had now affected the entire community while it was only meant for certain people. However, the Governor pointed out that he did not hold grudges with the person who recorded him as he believed the person was used by certain people who were against his leadership. He vowed to continue serving all the people in the region irrespective of their tribes or political standing.
