The Mafwe Traditional Authority in the Zambezi Region has raised concern on the alleged allocation and sale of communal land to outsiders in the Liselo area. A group of traditional leaders and the Mafwe Traditional Authority Advisory Committee on Land held a meeting with the Liselo sub-council and its community on Sunday. The Liselo Headman, Lichaha Lichacha, informed the community that the chief and his Councillors were aware of the land dispute in the area. Lichacha cited allegations that some people who were allocated land in Liselo area were allegedly strangers. He and land advisors demanded an explanation from Headman Lackson Simiyasa and his councillors. Some of the allegations are that land is sold for 50 000 dollars or less, depending on the size of the plots. The Mafwe traditional authority wants to know where the money goes as it has not received payments for the land. The Councillors claimed that those coming from other areas to live within the Mafwe traditional authority area, should denounce their loyalty to their current authority.
