Namibia will host its first-ever Solar Energy Development Expo and Conference in two-months. Scheduled for the 13th and 14th of October in Windhoek, the event will bring together international and local companies as well as experts. Nampa reports that exhibitors will show-case applications and practical solar energy projects available countrywide for use in effective socio-economic development. It is organised by a local company, Electricity Africa, the training branch of RDJ Consulting Services. The company’s Senior Advisor for Renewable Energy, Lahja Amaambo says the event allows a clear demonstration of the potential that solar energy development may bring. On his part, RDJ Consulting Services Managing Consultant David Jarrett said the private sector must work closely with the Government to develop the country. The event also provides companies with a networking opportunity to debate technical, policy and financing issues. These will include the impact of solar energy on gender empowerment, health, information and communication technology and education. The latest technological applications will also be displayed and demonstrated. Namibia currently obtains about 65% of its electricity from neighboring South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
