The Home Affairs and Immigration Minister, has warned people who acquire dual citizenship through dubious ways, to stop the practice. Pendukeni Iivula-Ithana says dual nationality can only be controlled if those in power, including traditional and religious leaders, are honest and transparent in their dealings. She advised traditional and religious leaders to only give evidence of people they know are Namibians, because if they were not vigilant, national documents would end up in the hands of non-Namibians who would benefit from both sides. She says some people from neighbouring Angola discovered that Namibia is offering better services to its people such as pension, education and health care and they were now opting to come into Namibia to benefit from these services. The Minister says it is vital for relevant authorities to join government efforts of ensuring that loopholes of non-Namibians trying to come up with false ways to get national documents, are blocked.
