The Land Reform Deputy Minister has encouraged resettled farmers in Namibia to redouble their efforts and use the land productively. Addressing the Third Otjozondjupa Resettlement Farmers Symposium, Bernadus Swartbooi said he was happy with the improved farming activities at most units in the region, despite the climatic challenges experienced. The Deputy Minister pointed out that the resettlement programme in the region was a success, compared to others because the beneficiaries were using the land for the intended purposes. He also encouraged the farmers to be united and fight against any form of unproductive tendencies such as stock theft and the sale of alcohol and drugs on farm units. Swartbooi reiterated the Government’s commitment to redress the past land distribution inequalities which prompted the government to introduce the resettlement program by acquiring farms through the willing-seller-willing-buyer policy and resettling previously disadvantaged landless citizens. The Otjozondjupa Resettled Farmers Day is aimed at bringing beneficiaries and stakeholders together to share information and experiences on farming matters in the region.
