The President of the Namibia National Olympic Committee says the incident involving a Namibian boxer who has been arrested for alleged sexual harassment at the Olympic Games is being dealt with by the International Olympic Committee as well as by officials of Namibia’s embassy in Brazil. Abner Xoagub told our news team at the Rio Olympics that the boxer was arrested after a cleaner claimed that he attempted to sexually assault her, while in his room on Sunday. Xoagub says the officials have now taken up the case and the legal process is ongoing. He notes that it is unfortunate that such allegations have been made against the boxer. He says there is no proof of such allegations and the boxer has not made a statement. Xoagub says the Namibian nation will be kept informed about any latest developments on the case, adding that the Namibian team is focused on its participation in the Olympic games. Meanwhile, Namibian boxer Mathias Hamunyela narrowly missed out on a lightweight division quarterfinal spot after losing to Kazakistan opponent Birzhan Zhakipov at the Rio Olympics last night.
