Founding President Sam Nujoma says democracy will only be realised once Namibia’s political opponents learn to co-exist and not see one another as enemies. The former statesmansays this will be a crucial catalyst for Namibia in its effort to achieve the desired development goals and plans. Speaking at the launch of the SWAPO Party School policy documents in Windhoek on Saturday, Nujoma said there could be no democracy without peace. He said multi-party democracy was an important condition for peace and stability and without peace, there could be no development. The founding president stressed that Namibia must be governed on the basis of a multi-party democracy as outlined in Article 17 of the Namibian Constitution. This guarantees all citizens the right to participate in peaceful political activities intended to enhance good governance. Nujoma is the party school’s Patron, while former Deputy Prime Minister Marco Hausiku is its Founding Rector.
